MONTHLY SATSANG GATHERINGS: You are cordially invited to attend our monthly Satsang gathering. See below or go to http://www.karunamayi.org/local/DC/ for dates and times each month. Chanting and meditating in a group, whatever the size, increases the power and depth of our spiritual practice many fold and has a positive influence on the whole community. Also, meeting other people on the spiritual path can help us to maintain regular spiritual practice, even when events in our lives make it difficult. We hope to see you soon! FRUIT TO HOMELESS SHELTERS: At Amma's request, we encourage those who attend our Satsang gatherings to bring sweet, ripe, firm fruits such as apples and oranges. The fruit becomes charged with spiritual energy during the chanting, puja, and meditation. Then the fruit is taken to a local homeless shelter to bring upliftment and blessings to those in need. Donation of fruit is not required for attendance at Satsang programs.

NIGHTLY SYNCHRONIZED "AT-HOME" CHANTING OF THE KHADGAMALA STOTRA FOR WORLD PEACE: Please join us in the at-home synchronized nightly chanting of the Khadgamala Stotra at 8:00 pm to create a wave of peace for yourself, your loved ones, and the whole planet. If you have not yet learned to chant the stotra by attending one of Amma's retreats, you may participate by listening to the Sri Khadgamala CD and using the booklet for the stotra. Amma says that when every devotee in the same time zone chants Khadgamala at the same time (8 pm), this increases the positive effect on the individual and the world. She says that if people can't do it at 8:00 pm, they can do it at another time. Due to the great need for world peace and harmony, we request devotees who can to chant the Khadgamala nightly beginning at exactly 8:00 pm.

URGENT NEED FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR AMMA'S VISIT TO WASHINGTON MAY 23 TO 25, 2008: Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of tasks involved in hosting Amma. Activities involve posting fliers before her arrival to inform the community, ushering at the events, helping with unloading the vans that travel with Amma and loading them at the end, setting up the hall, assisting with fundraising, donating to help pay the expenses our local group incurs for hall rental, etc. Whether you have only an hour or can take on more responsibility, your help is greatly needed. Vidhya and Ranga Dandi will host the Karunamayi satsang on Saturday, April 19, from 4:00 to 6:00 pm. A light dinner will be prepared by Vidhya Dandi and served afterwards. All are welcome.

Amma has given her devotees a new format for satsangs. We will:

* Chant the sacred sound "Om" nine times.
* Chant prayers to Sri Ganesha, Sri Guru, and Sri Devi.
* Chant the Samputita Sri Suktam.
* Sing bhajans and devotional songs.
* Meditate for 20 minutes.
* Perform arati.
* Watch a video of Amma.

Chanting the Samputita Sri Suktam will include puja (offerings) to the Divine Mother in the form of the Sri Chakra to enliven all the Divine qualities, especially all levels of abundance in life, healing, and protection.

Arati is the ceremonial waving of lights that invokes the auspicious blessings of the Divine -- while chanting the Mahishasura Mardini Stotram.

Traditionally, people bring sweet, ripe fruit and/or flowers (red flowers are preferred but all flowers are welcome) to contribute to the Mother Divine puja. In accordance with Amma's wishes, firm fruits such as citrus fruits and apples offered in Puja will be distributed to needy people in the next day or so, so please feel free to bring lots of fruit to offer and donate.
